The company became a vision in 1977 when J.W. Harman began performing small earthwork projects including clearing, excavating and grading for local land owners. Cleco Corporation was formally incorporated in 1980. Through the first decade, Cleco continued to grow by completing diverse highway projects and coal mine related services. In the 90s, Cleco acquired a bridge company to further broaden the highway operations. Over the last few decades, Cleco continued a growth pattern expanding into the railroad industry. Today, Cleco continues to progress and operate in all these specialty areas for both the private and public sectors.
